Hashpower Marketplace: Testing and Timeline
We’d like to keep everyone updated on the status of QA and testing for the Lumerin Hashpower Marketplace.
We’re still deep in testing, which will require several more weeks to ensure proper quality assurance and best-possible performance. Our current estimate for production launch is within this quarter, Q4–2022. In the meantime, the beta program is still accepting signups and, most encouragingly, we’ve already seen 400 petahashes traded to-date in the Marketplace’s testing environment.
The fact is, we’re doing something that hasn’t been done before: decentralizing trust between the buyer and seller of what is essentially a real-time data stream. This means that timeframes can shift, especially since testing is even more vital in such a scenario.
As to the current priorities, there are two main testing-related items: changes to the testnet environment itself and, most importantly, broader ecosystem integration.
The first was relatively easy, though took a bit of time: migrating the beta marketplace from the soon-to-be-deprecated Ropsten to Goerli testnet. (Done.)
The second is an issue that’s well-understood, but is nevertheless significant given its complexity. This involves addressing performance-related issues that arise when rerouting hashrate to a few specific, major mining pools.
In our view, you should be able to point the hashrate you acquire on the Lumerin Hashpower Marketplace to any Bitcoin mining pool you want. Therefore, integrating all major pools with the marketplace is critical for a successful launch.
That said, each pool has its own characteristics and idiosyncrasies. To ensure comprehensive pool support, we are carefully studying and resolving these issues. As we’ve often pointed out, we’re tokenizing the security root of the world’s most secure network. This requires the utmost care.
Absolutely none of this, though, means that the Lumerin Explorer Program is slowing down. Quite the contrary, you will still be able to sign up for the program (over 300 registrations to-date!) to become a Marketplace tester. If you haven’t signed up for the program yet, please register today.
